You know the favourite pieces of clothing you have in your wardrobe–maybe a beautiful coat, a blouse, sweater, pair of pants or a scarf, that you absolutely love. You’ve had them for years and maybe don’t even find the special occasion to wear them enough, but you do anyway. I would be willing to bet that those pieces were an investment for you and that they are made with beautiful, natural materials. They have served you well over the years and through the decades and you still enjoy the feeling of putting them on. This is the essence of Slow Fashion.
At Cahill’s we believe in well made, high quality clothing, created by skilled craftspeople, from fine materials that lasts a lifetime or more.
Fashion choices must be more than convenient, trendy and disposable. We must shop with intention and vision. Our core principles of respect for people, animals and the environment are pillars of Slow Fashion. [See Our Philosophy]
Our clothing choices are a reflection of ourselves, our beliefs and values, from style to texture, colour and purpose of materials. Form meeting function that is a part of your journey, story and style legacy. Wise fashion choices and investment in quality pieces that last can stay with you on your journey for a lifetime.
Slow Fashion usually comes at a cost. But the difference to the quality of the product is the gift you are giving yourself. An elderly Eastern European lady once said to me: “I am not rich enough to buy poor quality things.” Profound, and true.
Continue to love wearing those pieces, wear them more often, and wear them for years. Keep them in your wardrobe for decades and pass them on (think vintage thrifting!), or upcycle them to something completely different while maintaining the originality of the piece you first fell in love with. Appreciate them, and smile.
Not only do these items bring you joy whenever you wear them, you are being respectful to the earth, by not destroying the land, polluting the air or water in their production or maintenance. Slow and sustainable - it feels good.
